The Bellbridge Hotel derives its name from the picturesque bridge that it is located beside - The Bellbridge or in Irish Bealaclugga.
Little is known on the history of this bridge. It is obviously of the nineteenth century with its peculiar looking Gothic arch and Castellated abutments.
However there is a well-known local myth surrounding the Bridge. It tells that Saint Senan possessed a bell, Clog na Neal, which fell to him from heaven, and that it was used for the swearing of all kinds of oaths. He swore on it whoever broke that oath would be forever cursed. A chieftain who was convinced that his servants were cheating on him sent one of them to Saint Senan to get the bell in order to put them to the test.
